The Role: Cloud Data Engineer
Cloud Data Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager of Seegrid’s Data & Analytics team. You will be a part of a close-knit cross-functional team who is responsible for delivering new data features and products to our cloud based infrastructure through iterative production releases, while supporting our existing customers and end-users. The ideal person for this role will have experience building and supporting live production applications, who is an informed engineer with expertise in cloud operations and motivated to work in every area of the product if a need arises.
Core Responsibility for this role:
Participate and deliver in all phases of the product development - ideation, design, development, testing and support, for the Fleet Data & Analytics platform and software products that emerge from it.
The successful completion of your first year, looks like:
- Gained knowledge of the entire data pipeline and the core data transformations that support the product.
- Gained understanding and familiarity with the vendor tools and our technology stack.
- Collaborated with the cross functional product and design team to ideate new features and roadmap items.
- Contributed in development and implementation of at least 1 new feature to production.
- Participated in the team's agile processes and release ceremonies as an engaged team member.
- Gained familiarity of Seegrid’s entire product stack and customer operations.
Responsibilities will consist of:
- Participate in all phases of the development process: planning, construction, code review and testing of cloud based applications.
- Help create and maintain scalable data pipeline architecture.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Knowledge of APIs to design RESTful services, and integrate them with existing data providers, using JSON or XML as needed.
- Demonstrate problem-solving and technical innovation.
- Share knowledge with peers by writing design documents, giving tech talks, documenting code, collaborating on process improvements, etc.
- Work closely with product management and service teams to deliver great products.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or similar field of study or equivalent practical experience.
- At least two years of experience in developing software using languages such as Java, Python, C++ or Ruby.
- Experience working with any set of the following: distributed systems, non-relational databases, relational databases, asynchronous programming paradigms, real-time messaging systems (AMQP, MQTT, WSS), REST web services, Slack apps
- Ability to clearly explain and communicate complex technical topics.
Desired Experience:
- Experience with SOA applications and cloud-based services, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Data Science experience to analyze large amounts of raw information to find patterns that will help improve our company.
